Who referred you to the game: Someone’s LJ mentioned it. After a few frantic googlings, I found the LJ page. I’ve kind of been lurking since then…
Character Name: John Watson
Canon source: Sherlock BBC, after The Hounds of the Baskerville.
Personality: John is essentially a foil to Sherlock. Where Sherlock lacks people skills, and is cold and calculating, John gets on well with most people, and is kind and caring. He has strong moral principles, most likely due to his service in the army and his medical training. He can put up with a lot of crap, which is a necessary skill for living with Sherlock Holmes.
John is an intelligent man, although having Sherlock around mutes this to most people. He is also very brave and courageous. If he considers someone a friend, he’ll stick with them through thick and thin, even if he thinks they’re being an idiot or about to do something really stupid.
As stated in-show, “(John) isn’t haunted by the war, (he) misses it.” He lives for adrenaline, even if he’ll never say it aloud, and he’ll jump at the chance to put himself in high-risk situations. If he deems it necessary, he will use deadly force and feel no compunctions over it.
History: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Sherlock_characters#John_Watson
How does your AU differ from canon?: Sherlock is basically the Sherlock Holmes storied updated to the 21st century by Stephen Moffat and Mark Gatiss. John is essentially the same character from the Conan Doyle stories, but if he lived in our time.
Strengths:
-Medical experience. Duh.
-John is a crack shot. He once shot a man dead through two windows, in another building, with a pistol, and with the wrong hand.
- His loyalty
- He adapts quickly.
Weaknesses:
- He has no superpowers. He might be more fit than the average guy, but that’s nothing compared to some of the people running around in this setting.
- As stated before, he’s a bit of an adrenaline junkie. Expect him to get in over his head more than once.
Preferred drop-in point: New York
What are some of your plans for this character in their new environment?
John’s pretty adaptable, so he’ll settle in pretty quickly. He’ll try to get his medical license back, as a means of income, or at least something where he can use his medical training. If that fails, he’ll try to find something else to do with himself.
For extra introductory shenanigans, some characters might recognize John from the novels by Conan Doyle, despite the fact that he’s not from the Victorian era.
First Person Journal Sample:
[A man appears on the screen. He’s fiddling with the camera, trying to get it working properly.]
Ah- Hello? Is this thing working? Oh, good.
[He is obviously British. He sighs, and sits back in his chair.]
So, I’m in New York. Never thought I’d go to America. Didn’t really seem like a thing I’d ever want to do. After all, I get enough excitement as is… But I’m in some sort of alternate universe? That’s what the pamphlet says, at least… [He holds up said pamphlet]
Oh, right. I should probably introduce myself. I’m Dr. John Watson, formerly of 221B Baker Street. You might’ve heard of my flatmate, Sherlock Holmes. Especially after all that “Net Detective” business. But then again, probably not. Alternate universes and all that.
Well, I’ve no idea what I’m going to do with myself. I don’t imagine my license is valid here… Does anyone know, if there’s something I could do for a job? If you could give me any suggestions, that would be great.
[He reaches over to the camera, and the screen goes blank]
Third Person Sample: John sat back in his chair and sighed. Good God, the accomodations here were rubbish. They made the halfway house he’d stayed in after coming home after Afghanistan look like bloody Buckingham Palace. Of course, then, he’d been able to move into 221B…
His thoughts drifted to his current situation. To be honest, he was still somewhat incredulous over the whole thing. Alternate universes? From what he’d been told, there were even superheroes and magic here. It was just all so unbelievable…
But, one could not ignore the facts, as Sherlock had told him so many times. The strange tattoo he’d found on his upper arm, the loss of his possessions (his gun), and obviously the fact that not even Mycroft could instantaneously teleport people across the Atlantic Ocean. There was no doubt about it. He was no longer in Kansas.
Now what?
